Will Navjot Singh Sidhu return to BJP? Navjot Kaur hints at political shift in Punjab

After the political differences with Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh, former Cabinet Minister Navjot Singh Sidhu’s involvement in Punjab politics was seen very rarely. But it seems that his wife Dr. Navjot Kaur Sidhu, has once again, started work to gain some ground in order to put Sidhu’s political career back on track. Sidhu’s wife made a statement for the second time in a week that if the Bhartiya Janata Party separates from the SAD, the Sidhu couple has no problem in rejoining the BJP.

A week ago, Dr. Sidhu said on Twitter and on Thursday after visiting the camp in Mansa that if the BJP breaks up with the Akali Dal, then the Sidhu couple can think about re-joining the BJP.  Regarding the Akali Dal, Navjot Kaur Sidhu said that he was looting Punjab, hence BJP lost while BJP alone could have won the election.

Sidhu had made similar remarks when she was BJP MLA in August 2016, Dr. Sidhu had said that BJP and Shiromani Akali should work separately as being in a coalition, there is always a dispute between the two parties.

Navjot Kaur had gone to Sidhu Budhawar to attend a meeting at Bhiki’sDera Baba Balwant Muni Ji where while interacting with journalists she demanded action against liquor mafia in Punjab. Speaking about her husband’s role she said that he is performing his responsibilities up to his merit. Further talking about the deaths due to the poisonous liquor, the former BJP MLA urged that whoever is responsible for this must be arrested and given the harshest and confiscate the property of the accused.

Navjot Kaur also gave condolence to the families of the deceased while she also praised Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on opening the Mohalla Clinics. While praising Kejriwal former Amritsar MLA mentioned that she was the one who suggested Kejriwal to open Mohalla Clinic saying that when Kejriwal came in power she had put her health policy in front of him, after which Kejriwal opened Mohalla Clinics in Delhi and improved health services.

Earlier in 2017 assembly elections, the talk of the Sidhu couple joining the Aam Aadmi Party was thwarted in the last phase because Kejriwal refused to project Navjot Singh Sidhu’s for Chief Minister.

Dr. Sidhu’s soft attitude towards BJP has created a stir in Congress. After Sidhu’s resignation, Dr. Sidhu had removed the name of Congress and wrote a social worker in his social media account. When Sidhu was deciding to leave the BJP, Dr. Sidhu had put the BJP in the dock several times. Before Sidhu joined the Congress, Dr. Sidhu had started scribbling down his move with similar statements.

Navjot Singh Sidhu in his first-ever communication with Chief Minister Capt Amrinder Singh after quitting the Cabinet complained about serious ignorance in the development works of his constituency i.e Amritsar East.

The letter which is dated 16 July alleges that the five bridge projects inaugurated by the Chief in October 2018 were progressing at a snail’s pace. He had taken approval for these from the Railways ministry and funds were released, yet nothing had fructified so far.

On the other hand, Chief Minister Capt Amrinder Singh is facing heat from his own party members as the death toll due to poisonous liquor touched 117 on Wednesday. Congress Rajya Sabha MPs Pratap Singh Bajwa and Shamsher Singh Dullo, have shot off letters to governor V.P. Singh Badnore complaining that the state government is ‘hand in glove’ with the liquor mafia.

With Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan already lost, the political scenario in Punjab the Congress national leadership will definitely have sleepless nights.
