Tamil Nadu Congress leader Khushboo Sundar may join BJP, leaves for Delhi

Khushboo Sundar

The Congress party on Monday removed Khushboo Sundar as a national spokesperson with immediate effect. She was a prominent face of the Congress party in South India. He has acted in more than 200 South Indian and Bollywood films. She joined the Congress party in 2014. There are speculations that Khushboo may join the BJP on Monday and the political pundits believe it will be a good opportunity for the BJP as the state elections are due next year.

Meanwhile, Khushbu resigned from the Congress party and conveyed the same to party president Sonia Gandhi.

Khushbu, in her resignation letter, thanked Sonia for the opportunity given to her to serve the nation as the national spokesperson of the party. In her resignation letter addressed to the congress president, Khusboo pointed out, “few elements seated at a higher level within the party, people who’ve no connectivity with ground reality or public recognition are dictating terms.”

According to latest reports, Khushboo will join the Saffron party at the BJP headquarters in Delhi around 12:30 pm in the presence of a senior leader and party national president J P Nadda.

Political analysts believe that after Khusboo joins BJP the party can field her in 2021 assembly elections. Sources in BJP’s Tamil Nadu unit said, “Khushboo can change the perception of BJP in Tamil Nadu.” The popular actress has been a part of many parties in the past. She joined DMK in 2010 at that time the party was in power in the state. When she joined the DMK  she had said, ‘I think I have taken the right decision. I love serving people. I want to work for the betterment of women.

However, when she left the DMK after four years, she said, “For DMK, hard work was a one-way street.” She joined Congress after meeting Sonia Gandhi in 2014. Then she had said, ‘Finally I have come to my home. Congress is the only party that can do good for the people of India and unite the country. ‘ However, the Congress neither gave her a Lok Sabha ticket in 2014 nor made her a member of the Rajya Sabha, while the DMK-Congress alliance had registered a major victory in the state.

Khushboo has been very popular in a beautiful state. With the state elections in Tamil Nadu eight months away, the BJP with its limited reach in the state would like to try Khushboo Sundar’s star power. Especially when the ruling AIADMK is uneasy about continuing its alliance with the BJP in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections and there is speculation that the national party may support superstar Rajinikanth, who may start his own party before the election.

It is being reported that Khushboo was running angry after not getting a ticket in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. In recent times, she was seen expressing a different opinion on some issues than the official stand of the Congress. Apart from the party’s stance, she also supported the new education policy.
