After days of speculations and row over handing the Sushant Singh Rajput’s death case to CBI, the SC bench on Wednesday has ordered a CBI probe into it rejecting Rhea Chakraborty’s plea to transfer the investigation from Patna to Mumbai. The Supreme Court bench also mentioned that the contents listed in the FIR registered in Patna have Mumbai Police jurisdiction as well.
The Supreme Court order today has asked the Mumbai police to hand over all evidence it has collected to the CBI. It is a huge win for Patna Police as they had to fight against Mumbai Police to continue with their investigation.
Earlier, the bench reserved its judgment after hearing Rhea’s plea on August 11.
Chakraborty, in her petition, claimed that Bihar Police doesn’t have any jurisdiction in the case and Sushant’s death has been used as a political tool to gain mileage for the forthcoming elections in the state. She also cited media glare and over sensationalizing of the incident as the other ground for transferring it to Mumbai.
Patna Police registered an FIR at the behest of Sushant Singh Rajput’s father KK Singh’s complaint that Rhea Chakraborty was responsible for driving the actor to suicide.
Singh also alleged that Rhea had fraudulently siphoned Rs 15 crore from Rajput’s bank account, a claim she refutes and agreeing to fully cooperate with an investigation by the Enforcement Directorate (ED). Meanwhile, ED had quizzed Singh on his son’s finances on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, the CBI also registered a case against Rhea Chakraborty and three members of her family members.
