Rhea Chakraborty, arrested for the drug-angle in the Sushant Singh Rajput death case, has got some respite as the Bombay High Court on Wednesday granted her bail. Lodged in jail for the last many days, Rhea was granted bail on a personal bond of Rs 1 lakh. However, the high court rejected the plea of her brother Showik and Abdel Basit Parihar.
Others who also were granted bail include Sushant Singh Rajput’s cook Dipesh Sawant and his domestic help Samuel Miranda. They both have to furnish a personal bond of Rs. 50,000 each.
Rhea, who was arrested by the NCB on September 8, on charges of being a part of a drug syndicate flourishing in Mumbai, was reportedly in a relationship with Sushant Singh Rajput. Her brother Showik who was also allegedly connected with the drug cartel had been arrested on September 4.
A special court had rejected Rhea Chakraborty’s bail plea after which the actor filed an appeal before the Bombay High Court. Ever since her arrest, Rhea Chakraborty has been in the Byculla jail cell. A special court had yesterday extended their judicial custody till October 20.
In her bail plea, Chakraborty said that as per prima facie allegations, she had procured drugs for her boyfriend Sushant Singh Rajput, who is alleged to have died by suicide on June 14 at his Bandra residence. She argued that it is not tantamount to being part of any drug syndicate to invoke Section 27A of the NDPS Act, which pertains to financing illicit traffic and is a non-bailable offence.
A separate probe is on by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) against Rhea Chakraborty and others for allegedly abetting the actor’s suicide.
As per sources, CBI is now focusing on the slew of reasons that could have led to the actor taking his own life—including any role played by Chakraborty, professional rivalry, and nepotism in Bollywood coupled with the effect of drug abuse and Rajput’s mental health.
