Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy said about the attacks on Hindu temples in the state that it is an effort to create a rift between caste and religion in the state. He said that wrong propaganda is being done on social media and some people are trying to distract the government schemes. Meanwhile, Goddess Sita idol was found broken in the Sitaram Temple near Pandit Nehru Busstop in Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh on Sunday, following which BJP Andhra Pradesh national secretary Sunil Deodhar slammed CM YS Jagan Mohan Reddy.
On December 28, a case of fragmentation of the idol of Lord Rama was revealed in Ramatirtham hill temple of Vizianagaram district of the state. Two days after this, the idol of Subramaneshwar Swami was found in a temple in Rajamahendravaram too. A new controversy has arisen over the incident of sabotage in temples in different parts of the state. The opposition has held the YS Jaganmohan Reddy government responsible for this.
BJP’s Sunil Deodhar targeted the Chief Minister and said, ‘Should your silence and inaction not be treated as a hidden support for miscreants?’ Whereas, former Chief Minister and Telugu Desam Party (TDP) chief N. Chandrababu Naidu said that this is a betrayal. Reversing this, the leaders of the ruling YSR Congress accused Chandrababu Naidu of plotting to revolt against the government.
Chief Minister Reddy said, “Some people have no fear of God nor devotion to God, such people are also doing politics on God, tampering with the idols of God. Wrong publicity is being done through the Yellow Media by destroying the idols. Are these people humans who are creating a rift between caste and religion? “
He said, “The responsibility of investigating such cases has come upon us. Who will benefit from damaging the idol of God? Who will benefit from misinformation by hurting people’s feelings? With what goal are such misdeeds done? People should always watch such antics. ”However, the Chief Minister did not say anything about how to stop the attacks on temples. Rather, the incident was shown in the media as false propaganda and called it Yellow Journalism.
In the meantime, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jaganmohan Reddy has ordered the Crime Investigation Department (CID) to probe the “unfortunate incident” of desecration of Lord Ram idol in Ramateertham of Nellimarla Mandal in Vizianagaram district.
State Endowments Minister Vellampalli Srinivasa Rao confirmed that the Andhra chief minister has ordered for modernisation of the temple and a new idol will be installed. “Chief Minister has ordered CID inquiry into the unfortunate incident of Lord Ram idol desecration at Ramateertham. CM Reddy has ordered for modernization of the temple. A new idol will be installed there. We have approved the design which was accepted by the officials. We will announce the date of the installation of the new idol within two days after consulting Agama scholars,” Rao said after chairing a meet with the higher officials of Endowments and police departments.
