Kamal Haasan promises ‘payment’ to women for work at home, rules out rules out alliance with Dravidian parties for polls

women for work at home

Actor-turned-politician Kamal Haasan has assured that if his party, MakkalNeedhiMaiam (MNM), wins the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections in 2021 and comes to power, housewives will be paid for housework, households and farmers will be transformed to agri-entrepreneurs through a computer with high-speed internet. He also cleared that his party will not forge any alliance with Kazhagam parties, apparently referring to DMK and AIADMK, in the forthcoming Tamil Nadu Assembly polls. It is to be noted that elections are going to be held in Tamil Nadu next year, which can see many political upsets in the state. Meanwhile, it was also being said that Kamal Haasan could ally with Rajinikanth’s party. However, no explanation has been received from their side so far.

Releasing the party’s seven-point ‘governance and economic agenda’, the MNM chief said people below the poverty line would be ‘brought to the prosperity line’. The party’s agenda states that housewives will be recognized for the work they do through payment, as their work is neither recognized nor paid yet. The honour of women will be enhanced.

“Homemakers will get their due recognition through payment for their work at home which hitherto has been unrecognised and unmonetised, thus raising the dignity of our womenfolk,” the agenda said.

Haasan released the party’s agenda in Kanchipuram, a town famous for temples located near Chennai. During this, former IAS officer Santosh Babu was also present. Babu has recently joined MNM. Responding to questions from reporters, Haasan said that women can be paid.

Haasan said that the state can become prosperous without corruption. He has denied any alliance with the ruling Anna DMK or DMK in response to a question. In Tamil Nadu, the ruling parties All India DravidaMunnetraKazhagam (AIADMK) and DravidaMunnetraKazhagam (DMK) are the main Kajagam parties of the state. Apart from these, Amma MakkalMunnetraKajagam, DravidarKajagam, Dravida Viduthalai Kajagam, MarumalarachiDravidaMunnetraKajagam, MGR Kajagam, DesiaMurpokkuDravidaKajagam, DhirvidaThelugarMunnetraKajagam, Dalit MakkalMunnetraKajagam, Dalit MakkalMunnetraKajagam, etc. There are many Kajagams in the state.

Kamal Haasan, who is involved in the second phase of the campaign, visited the memorial house of Grandfather Anna in Kanchipuram. He had earlier told reporters that he had not spoken to Rajini as he had started campaigning after saying he was ready for an alliance with Rajini. He added that the MGR People’s Party has said no to the torch symbol and will fight the law to regain the symbol. Kamal Haasan said they aimed to put people above the poverty line.

Asked by reporters whether he would contest as the chief ministerial candidate if he allied with Rajini, he said he would not refuse if asked. He said he was rational and had no problem conversing with anyone. The upcoming assembly elections in the state are likely in April-May. However, MNM, AIADMK and DMK have started campaigns to win over voters.
