Haryana BJP leader Shyam Singh Rana, who quit party over new farm laws, joins INLD

Shyam Singh Rana

Shyam Singh Rana, a former Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA from Radaur in Haryana, left the BJP on Saturday and joined the Indian National Lok Dal (INLD).

Rana joined INLD along with his supporters in the presence of INLD supremo and former chief minister Om Prakash Chautala, party general secretary Abhay Chautala, state president Nafe Singh Rathi. Speaking to reporters on the occasion, he said that he will now try to serve the people of Radaur more and more through INLD. He claimed that INLD is the farmer-friendly party. He called the Agricultural Reforms Act of the Central Government against the interests of farmers.

Rana further said that both BJP and Congress supported the agricultural bills. While out of power, both parties oppose it and support it when they come to power. But the INLD party always fought for the interests of farmers, labourers, shopkeepers and traders. He will join the party and fight the battle of farmers, labourers, shopkeepers and the general public.

The former MLA said BJP is forcibly imposing black laws on farmers. A month and a half ago, Rana met MLA Abhay Singh Chautala due to neglect in the BJP and talked about his inclusion in the party.

Shyam Singh Rana resigned from BJP on September 30, supporting the farmers’ agitation against the agrarian reform laws of the Center.

Welcoming Rana into the party, INLD chief OP Chautala said that he was grateful to Rana who chose to join INLD at a crucial period and without bothering any immediate political gain or benefit. He assured that the party would give him due honour for his decision.

Senior INLD leader and Ellenabad MLA Abhay Singh Chautala said that Rana’s joining would not only strengthen the INLD but would also help the farmers and labour class of the state.

Shyam Singh Rana joined the BJP in Kurukshetra on June 2007. In the 2009 assembly elections, he contested from Radaur on BJP ticket and secured 13750 votes.  In 2014 he won 67800 votes defeating INLD’s Prince Bubka and was the party’s chief parliamentary secretary. In the 2019 assembly elections, the party cut his ticket and gave it to Karn Dev Kamboj, but he lost the election. After the defeat of Kamboj, Rana was also accused of instigation in the party.

On former MLA Shyam Singh Rana joining INLD, BJP’s former Minister of State, Karnadev Kamboj said that Shyam Singh Rana continued to join from one party to another throughout his life. This is the reason why he lost the assembly and Lok Sabha elections. In 2014, BJP won the election by giving him ticket from Radaur. He has gone back to the team he was in earlier. The INLD is a sinking ship on which Shyam Singh is on board. Kamboj added, “Rana is an opportunist leader. Who have been joining other teams to fulfil their selfishness? He and the INLD have no support in the area. Rana was never a loyalist of the BJP. He is opportunistic. Who always changed parties for their own benefit. It was due to BJP that he received respect from the people in the area.”
