Coronavirus cases in India are upsurging at a great speed, and it is likely that the country will top the list of the worst-affected. Currently, the tally in the US has surged to 4,918,240 and Brazil 2,808,076, the two most affected nations in the world.
In the past 24 hours, India registered 50,000 cases for seven days in a trot. As per the Health Ministry updates, India’s fatality rate is 2.10 %. This is the lowest since the first lockdown was eased. This is much lower than the global average.
Testing in India has also gone robust. Data from the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) reveals that a cumulative total of 2,14,84,402 samples have been tested up to August 4 with 6,19,652 samples being tested on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, over 1.2 million people have been cured. Among Indian states, five most affected states are Maharashtra (4,57,956), Tamil Nadu (268,285), Andhra Pradesh (1,76,333), Karnataka (1,45,830) and Delhi (1,39,156).
Currently, the world is racing against time to bring out a COVID-19 vaccine to contain the pandemic.
