In a major shock to the ruling Congress in Rajasthan, the opposition BJP swept recently-held panchayat Samiti elections. BJP has won 137 wards more than Congress in Panchayat Samitis and 101 wards in Zilla Parishad. The State Election Commission has released the official figures of the wards of the Panchayat Samitis and District Councils. In the midst of disappointing results in the local elections of Rajasthan, the internal stir in the Congress is also seen coming to the surface. Accusations are being made by the state leaders of the Congress for openly trying to bring down the government on the BJP. Meanwhile, information has been received from sources that Rajasthan Congress state president Govind Singh Dotasara has met former deputy CM Sachin Pilot.
Out of 4371 Panchayat Samiti wards in the elections held in 21 districts of the state, BJP has won 1989 wards while Congress has got 1852 wards. Independents have won in 439 wards. RLP has won 60, CPM 26 and BSP 5 wards. The official results of 635 wards out of 636 Zilla Parishad have been released. Of these, BJP has won 353 wards out of 635 of Zilla Parishad. Here too only 252 wards have gone to the account of Congress. Apart from these, independents have won 18, RLP 10 and CPM have won in 2 wards.
Meanwhile, State President Govind, who is considered to be a close aid of Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot, has met Sachin Pilot at his residence in Jaipur. It is being told that in this meeting there has been a discussion about political appointments which are to be done in this month or January of the new year.
According to sources, it has been learned that this meeting between the two big leaders has taken place on the initiative of the Gandhi family. It has been told that the top leadership of the Congress has told the Congress leaders of Rajasthan that Sachin Pilot should be consulted to give new responsibilities to the leaders.
Significantly, this year, Sachin Pilot, after adopting a rebel stance, had put the Gehlot government in trouble. The things became so out of hand that Ashok Gehlot had made serious allegations against Sachin Pilot saying that Pilot in collaboration with the BJP was trying to topple the state government and was also removed from the post of Deputy CM.
After a long battle, Pilot returned with the intervention of the Gandhi family. Now that the local elections are going on in the state and some appointments are to be made in the Congress, once again, the voices which are causing a political stir are rising. At the same time, Congress is also accusing BJP of conspiring to topple the government. In such a situation, Pilot’s stand has once again become very important for the Gehlot government. The Congress is in a tizzy with the results of the Panchayati Raj elections. Panchayat election results before the second anniversary of the government have raised concerns of Congress strategists. Defeat in the Panchayat Samiti and Zilla Parishad elections is being considered a wake-up call for the Congress government. This defeat has raised alarm bells for the party. On the other hand, BJP has got the issue for encircling the government before the 2nd anniversary of the government.
