CBI Raids Congress’s DK Shivakumar’s Premises In Alleged Corruption Case

CBI Raids

The CBI team is conducting raids at the residence of Karnataka Congress chief DK Shivkumar and his brother DK Suresh in Bangalore. Regarding this raid, the Congress has said that the government’s puppet CBI raids cannot stop us.

The CBI team is raiding more than 15 locations of Shivkumar and his brother Suresh It is being told that this raid has taken place in the case of disproportionate assets. The CBI team is raiding the DK Shivkumar house in Sadashiv Nagar, his former residences in Bengaluru in the morning. Raids are being also conducted in Doddalahalli and Kanakpura. It is reported that the house of some other people including his brother and MP DK Suresh is also being raided.

DK Shivkumar has been facing ED and Income Tax investigations for the last 2 years in the matter of earning disproportionate assets. Last year, the state government handed over the investigation of the case to the CBI, after which these raids are being conducted today.

According to media reports, the authorities raided his private premises and other places in the money laundering case related to tax evasion proceedings by the Income Tax Department. The Enforcement Directorate is said to have shared inputs to the raids based on which the CBI initiated action by registering a case of corruption.

“CBI has registered a case against then Minister of Karnataka Government and others on the allegations of acquisition of disproportionate assets. Searches are being conducted today at 14 locations including nine in Karnataka, four in Delhi, and one in Mumbai,” the probe agency said this morning in a statement.

Officials have said that the Enforcement Directorate was investigating a money laundering case based on the Income Tax Department’s action of tax evasion charges. During this time they got some inputs, which were forwarded to the CBI last year. The CBI has now filed this new case based on this input, under which raids have been conducted at DK Kumar’s residence.

This is not the first time that the premises of Congress leader D.K. Shivkumar is being raided. Similar raids were have been conducted in the years 2017 and 2018. In 2019, he was also arrested on alleged corruption charges. He was granted bail by the High Court after spending a month in jail. Similarly, in the raids conducted in 2017, 70 properties were raided, and after getting a lot an undisclosed property Shivkumar’s brother had said that all the property was not theirs. In that raid, ten crore rupees cash was also recovered.

On this action of the CBI, former Chief Minister and Congress leader Siddaramaiah have accused the Bharatiya Janata Party of doing politics of revenge. In a tweet on Monday, he wrote, “BJP has always tried to indulge in vindictive politics & mislead public attention. The latest CBI raid on DK Shivakumar’s house is another attempt to derail our preparation for by-polls. I strongly condemn this.”

Congress leader RandeepSurjewala also condemned the action by CBOI and attacked the BJP as he tweeted, “The insidious game of intimidation & machinations of Modi-Yeddyurappa duo being executed by a puppet CBI by raiding DK Shivakumar won’t deter us. CBI should be unearthing the layers of corruption in Yeddyurappa Govt.  But, ‘Raid Raj’ is their only ‘Machiavellian Move’ !”

“Let Modi & Yeddyurappa Govts & BJP’s frontal organizations i.e CBI-ED-Income Tax know that Congress workers & leaders will not be cowed down nor bow down before such devious attempts.

Our resolve to fight for people & expose BJP’s maladministration only becomes stronger,” he further tweeted.

Congress leader Karti Chidambaram also tweeted, “What else can we expect after the expose on @bsybjp by @INCKarnataka.”
