Renowned social activist Anna Hazare is one of the torchbearers of the farmers’ cause since long. Now, as the farmers’ movement in the country is turning into a potboiler, especially after the Republic Day fracas, Anna Hazare has also announced to launch his stir starting tomorrow to support the agitation of the farmers across the nation.
“I have been agitating for important demands of farmers for the last four years. It seems like the government is not taking proper decisions on the issue of farmers,” the 84-year-old activist said in a press statement.
Anna Hazare is all set to begin an indefinite fast at his hometown in Maharashtra’s Ahmednagar from tomorrow.
At the same time he has also requested his supporters to protest from their respective locations.
“We have kept our demands before the Central Government time and again. I have written letters to the Prime Minister and Union Agriculture Minister five times in the last three months,” said Hazare.
“Representatives of the government are discussing the matter but they haven’t reached a proper solution regarding the demands so far.
Meanwhile the farmers’ protest, which was running peacefully for the last two months have taken a new turn after the violence unleashed in the capital on January 26.
Many say that farmers, who had the support of most people have lost their plot with the general population disassociating themselves from the movement. The farmers and their sympathizers, have said that it was a ploy by the government to dislodge the movement.
Now, that Anna Hazare has jumped into the protest, it is likely to take a new turn.
