Controversial statements are constantly coming out during the campaign for the upcoming assembly elections in Hyderabad, the capital of Telangana. All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) leader Akbaruddin Owaisistirred a hornet’s nest controversy with his demand to demolish the mausoleumsof former Prime Minister PV Narasimha Rao and TDP founder NT Rama Rao, built on the banks of the Hussain Sagar lake. He said this while questioning the campaign to remove the poor people living close to the reservoir. Meanwhile, the Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) and Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) have condemned his statement.

Addressing a public gathering as part of campaigning for the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) election,Owaisi said that the government was demolishing the homes of the poor built on the lakes, but ignoring encroachments in the middle of the city, Hussain Sagar. the AIMIM leader asked if the municipal officials who had come to demolish the house of a poor man near the pondhave the courage to do this with the memorials of PV Narasimha Rao and TDP founder NT Rama Rao?

Owaisi said, “When Hussain Sagar was created, it was at an area of 4,700 acres. Today the area has been reduced to 700 acres. What happened to the remaining 4,000 acres? It was converted to Necklace Road and samadhis of (PV) Narasimha Rao and NTR (NT Rama Rao).”

The AIMIM leader further added, “If the encroachments are done by the poor, your administration is proactive in demolishing it. I am challenging you to demolish these samadhis.”

Owaisi also alleged that it was the government that encroached on the tank bund and built the GHMC office on the banks of the lake.

Along with this, Akbaruddin also said that where the poor could get land available, they bought it and they cannot be blamed for it. Referring to the recent floods in the city, he said that the natural flow of water in the Musi river has been disrupted due to the Outer Ring Road (ORR) and other construction.

The statement of Junior Owaisi baffled BJP.The head of Telangana BJP and MP from Karimnagar, Sanji, has expressed a sharp reactionon Akbaruddin Owaisi’s remarks. He said that if anyone touched the tomb of these late leaders, the BJP would demolish the AIMIM headquarters ‘Dar-ul-Salaam’.

Without naming Akbaruddin, state BJP president and MP B Sanjay Kumar reacted sharply, asking if he had the courage to demolish the tombstones of Narasimha Rao and NTR.

At the same time, Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) acting president K.T. Rama RaocondemnedAkbaruddin Owaisi’s remarks on the memorials of Rama Rao. Rama Rao has tweeted that the AIMIM leader’s remarks about the two late leaders are inappropriate.

KT Rama Rao said that Narasimha Rao and NTR were great men who retained the respect of the Telugu people and that democracy has no place for such inappropriate remarks.

Narasimha Rao’s grandson, BJP leader NV Subhash condemned the comments of Akbaruddin and said the latter should mend his ways and tender an apology. Earlier, BJP MP D. Arvindaddressed AIMIM’s MLA Akbaruddin Owaisi, that once let the Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) come to power, I put you… your brother… your party under the shoes.
