After Disha Ravi, two more activists served arrest warrants

A day after the arrest of 21-year-old environment activist Disha Ravi, Delhi police issued non-bailable warrants against two more activists on Monday.

Disha was arrested from Bengaluru for her role in propagating the protest toolkit in support of the farmers. Now, Mumbai-based lawyer Nikita Jacob and Shantanu have also been issued warrants and police are on the lookout.

Their names came subsequently during the interrogation of Disha by the police who was sent to five-day police custody by a city court on Sunday, triggering widespread outrage online.

Although arrest warrants have been slapped on the duo, their involvement in the case is yet to be ascertained. In the meanwhile the police are verifying their antecedents and possible involvement with any group. They have been charged for sedition.

The charges point towards Disha for sharing the toolkit with Greta Thunberg and later asking her to remove it.

Charges leveled against Disha are sedition, promoting enmity and criminal conspiracy, among other offences.

On February 4,  Delhi Police registered a first information report (FIR) under sections 124A (sedition), 153 (wantonly giving provocation with intent to cause riot), 153A (promoting enmity between different groups) and 120B (criminal conspiracy) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) after Thunberg tweeted the toolkit while expressing her support for the farmers’ protest in India.

According to the police, the toolkit was the handiwork of a pro-Khalistani group called Poetic Justice Foundation. An FIR has been registered against all the people who have created and promulgated it. Thunberg later deleted her tweet.

After the arrest of Disha Ravi, the internet erupted with massive support for her.
