Aam Aadmi Party has increased their action in Uttarakhand owing to the assembly elections in the state. AAP aims to make a stronghold in the state politics with their Delhi formula. AAP is dreaming of repeating the charisma of Delhi against the two old rivals BJP and Congress in the state politics.
To make this dream a reality, AAP’s strategists are making their presence felt in the state from Garhwal to Kumaon. In such a situation the question arises that when Uttarakhand Kranti Dal, a regional party and raises regional concerns, has failed to grab some ground in the state despite many years of struggle, how is it possible for a new party like AAP to find feet. It is also to be noted that in the last assembly election, after taking a step forward, AAP had pulled back its steps.
The party has assigned the responsibility of establishing its roots in Uttarakhand to Dinesh Mohania, an MLA from Delhi. Mohania is the party charge of Uttarakhand.
“The circumstances during the previous elections were different. Now we are preparing well. Offices are opening in all assembly segments. Two in-charge have been made in every assembly. Work is going on at the booth level,” said Mohania.
According to Mohania, his first task is to create an organizational structure up to the booth level. “The party is thinking of creating a network of activists through which it reaches out to every voter and after discussion with voters, we plan to make a manifesto that appeals to the public on the lines of Delhi. Our plan is to make a separate manifesto for each assembly, says Mohania. The declaration will be prepared according to local needs added Mohania.
Mohania agreed that BJP is far ahead of them as compared to the organizational network, but he backs his experience from Delhi. He says, “despite the BJP’s strong organizational network in Delhi, the Aam Aadmi Party has defeated it thrice. AAP is also eyeing BJP and Congress.”
Mohania claims that many people from both parties are in touch with AAP. “AAP is trying to make the organizational network capable within the next one and a half years so that it can take full advantage of the change in the ticket allocation, “explained Mohania.
The electoral politics of Uttarakhand revolves around the BJP and the Congress. In the three assembly elections held before 2017, UKD and BSP made a presence as the third force, but out of the total votes polled in the last election, BJP got 46.51 and Congress got 33.49 percent. That is, the remaining 34 parties got 20 percent votes. Of this, 10 percent came in the part of independents.
